Frequently Asked Questions
Where will the weekend be held?
-
We are not advertising the location online, but the event will be at a retreat center near Lincoln, MT.
How much does it cost?
Thanks to the generosity of a Montana family, MJP is able to greatly discount the cost for attendees!
-
If you register by May 1, it will be only $54 per adult (and $18 per child) for the entire weekend.
-
This includes accommodation at the retreat center, all meals (including one catered dinner), and all materials for activities.
-
I have kids. Is this retreat for me?
-
Yes! We will have children's programming throughout the weekend.
I am thinking about coming alone. Is this retreat for me?
-
Yes! We will have opportunities for meeting new people and small group discussions, activities, and icebreakers to make sure everyone feels welcome. If you'd like to meet someone from the community before attending our Shabbaton to make sure you know a familiar face, email us at info@montanajewishproject.com and we'll arrange a welcome meeting!
I don’t want to be stuck doing an activity that doesn’t interest me. Is this retreat for me?
-
Yes! We will be offering different activity choices for adults and kids throughout the weekend.
What kind of activities? I can be picky!
-
Our goal is to bring Jewish people from across Montana together, to make new friends and connect with old friends.
Our hope is that you engage with Judaism in ways that are meaningful to you.
We will be offering what sparks your interest– a nature walk with a rabbi discussing Jewish environmental values, an art project, services led by one of Montana’s rabbis, singing with Adina Amber Ikeman, board games, a workshop of Jewish mindfulness, folk dancing, a baking class, frisbee, Torah study, and more!
My family is interfaith. Will they feel welcome?
-
Yes! Whether it’s offering translated and transliterated texts that are accessible to everyone, creative ways to join in community, or opportunities to be together as a family, MJP is creating a weekend retreat that is welcoming.
What will the accommodations be like?
-
The retreat center we chose has different housing options.
-
There are two large cabins with bunkhouse-style sleeping and a cabin with a few rooms of various sizes that would be ideal for families. There is also unlimited camping space.
-
We will reserve space on a first-come, first-served basis.
I need my own individual room. Can I come?
-
If you need a private bathroom and an individual room, MJP has reserved several hotel rooms (off-site of our retreat center). We will not be able to cover the cost of these rooms.
Will carpooling be available?
-
We will send out a spreadsheet with carpool information to registrants closer to the retreat.
What will the food be like?
-
We will serve vegetarian food.
-
One dinner will be catered by Helena’s Savor and Graze. The others will be prepared on-site.
-
If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know we'll try to make accommodations as we're able.
This sounds busy! Will there be downtime?
-
Yes, free time will be built into the schedule. You can leave any time to spend some time on your own. Dip your toes in the creek. Take a nap.
I can’t afford gas to drive to another part of the state. Even $54 per person sounds like too much. Am I welcome?
-
Yes! It’s never easy to ask. We’ve been there. Just email info@montanajewishproject and we will register you at no charge.
Can I help?
-
Yes! Building a Montana-wide Jewish community takes work. Volunteering is not required, but it will be highly appreciated.
-
We are compiling a list of areas where we need volunteers. Please email info@montanajewishproject.com for that list.
-
If you can chip in more than $54 per adult for the weekend, you will help make our Shabbaton a success.
